My photography business, which I call “Artistic Pursuits” is the result of a creative and artistic seed, long dormant, but always present. The economic downturn of 2003 that decimated the Telecommunications industry which had provided a rewarding career for 20 plus years, became a blessing in disguise as that life altering event created a shift in the terrain of life, allowing that creative seed to finally sprout and break free to grow.
Creatively, my early interests were focused on drawing and sketching. In retrospect, it's clear to me that imagery and composition, as well as texture and detail were all integral components of my art. Even though life took me down various paths, creatively my interests grew to include pen and ink, calligraphy, and periodic meanderings into photography.
Cameras came and went but the undercurrent of interest and intrigue remained. The passing of my brother, who was a serious amateur photographer, resulted in my inheritance of his gear and a renewed interest in photography as creative outlet. A busy career and family life combined to keep my artistic desires subdued, making it little more than the occasional hobby and an avocation.
In early 2003, when faced with the prospect of radical downsizing of my life and lifestyle and as a result of encouragement and prodding from friends, and in particular - support and pressure from my son and daughter, I made the commitment to pursue this dream full time - hence there is, Artistic Pursuits - Photography and More…
I’m often asked, “How did you see that?” or “Why did you think that would be interesting!?”…my answer is part of my philosophy - I believe that there are many, many things that can catch ones eye, but too often we see without actually stopping to really look and look without actually seeing what is there.
Photographically, my primary interests are in still life – flora, fauna and the natural world are areas I love to explore but my passion lies with the cityscape and all it offers – architecture, architectural detail, bridges, industry and industrial details - areas rife with texture, color and contrast, full of opportunity and subject matter to capture and share with others.
It is my desire to share the images that I creatively capture, and artistically present. It is my hope you will find my work appealing and compelling. Please let me know what you think! Your feedback is desired and appreciated.
Thank you for your support and interest, may you find many reasons to smile!
